Daily Brains · sew one logic quilt a day, Gentle on Monday to Fiendish on Sunday.

Quiltwork is the fabric logic puzzle in Daily Brains (/daily). Each day sets one quilt: a square grid split by stitched seams into irregular patches, with a few squares already sewn (they wear a little button). Fill every square with a fabric so the day's rules hold. Every quilt is generated from the puzzle number, so the whole world sews the same one, and every quilt has exactly one finished pattern that can be reached by logic alone, without guessing.

STORY & LORE

Two rule sets

Lattice days (Mon, Wed, Fri, Sun) use an N×N grid and N fabrics: every row, every column and every patch holds each fabric exactly once. Sampler days (Tue, Thu, Sat) use patches of four squares and four fabrics: every patch holds each fabric once, and no two side-by-side squares may share a fabric.

The weekly ramp

Difficulty climbs through the week. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday can all be finished with plain single deductions. Friday, Saturday and Sunday are carved down until they need stronger guess-free techniques: if every spot left for a fabric in a patch, row or column touches one square, that square can't be that fabric; and naked pairs or triples inside a unit.

How a quilt is made

Lattice patches start as the rows of the grid and trade squares across their seams thousands of times until they melt into irregular shapes; Sampler patches are a random tiling of tetrominoes. A solver then sews a random full quilt into the patches, and pre-sewn squares are pulled out one at a time, keeping a square only when removing it would make the quilt harder than its weekday allows or no longer unique. The hardest of several candidates wins on the weekend.

The fabrics

Nine fabrics, each with its own colour and print so they stay apart without colour vision: Cherry Gingham, Mustard Dot, Sage Stripe, Denim Plaid, Plum Floral, Teal Chevron, Coral Cross, Cocoa Ticking and Ink Check. Sampler days and small Lattice days use the first four to seven.

HOW IT PLAYS

Sewing

Tap a square to select it, then tap a fabric in the palette (tap the same fabric again to unpick it). Tapping an already-selected square cycles through the fabrics. Pencil mode jots small fabric dots as reminders instead; placing a fabric tidies away that fabric's dots from every square that must differ. Keys: arrows to move, 1–9 to sew, Backspace to erase, P for pencil, U or Ctrl+Z to undo, Space to cycle.

Check and give up

Mistakes are never shown on their own. Check marks every wrongly sewn square with a red stitched cross for a few seconds; each use costs 75 points and appears in the share line. The flag button (tap twice) gives up and reveals the quilt; that ends the day as a loss and resets the streak.

Scoring

A finished quilt scores 600, plus a time bonus of up to 300 (full under the weekday's par, fading to nothing at three times par), plus 100 for using no checks, minus 75 per check, never below 100. The maximum is 1000. A quilt finished without checks is a perfect day. Pars: Mon 2:00, Tue 3:00, Wed 5:00, Thu 7:00, Fri 10:00, Sat 15:00, Sun 25:00.

Sharing

The share card shows the day's patch layout as coloured squares (never the answer), with the grid size, time and checks, e.g. "🧵 Quiltwork #25 · 7×7 · 4:20 · no checks". On a give-up, squares you hadn't sewn correctly show as ⬜.
