We want Wow Cool World to be usable by as many people as possible. We work towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA for the site around the games — browsing, leaderboards, the forum, your profile, and account pages.
We are not claiming that we fully meet that standard today. This is a small site built by a very small team, and this page is an honest account of where things actually stand.
The games themselves are largely not accessible to screen readers. Almost every game here draws to a <canvas> element, which produces pixels rather than text: there is no underlying structure for assistive technology to read. Many are also real-time and depend on quick reactions.
We would rather say that plainly than imply otherwise. Specifically:
Where we can improve this we do: games are being given on-screen touch controls and a gamepad-style overlay so they do not depend on a physical keyboard, and newer games are built with larger targets and clearer contrast.
If something here blocks you, please tell us — it is the fastest way to get it fixed, and we genuinely want to know. Email johnwowcool@gmail.com with the page or game, what you were trying to do, and the assistive technology you use if that is relevant.
We aim to reply within five business days. If we cannot fix something quickly we will tell you what we can do instead.
