What we are aiming for

We want Wow Cool World to be usable by as many people as possible. We work towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA for the site around the games — browsing, leaderboards, the forum, your profile, and account pages.

We are not claiming that we fully meet that standard today. This is a small site built by a very small team, and this page is an honest account of where things actually stand.

What should work well

• Every page can be navigated with a keyboard, and the focused element is visibly outlined.
• Pages use real headings, lists, buttons and links, so screen readers can move through them.
• Images and icons that carry meaning have text alternatives; purely decorative ones are hidden from assistive tech.
• The layout reflows down to a phone screen and survives zooming in.
• Animations respect your system’s “reduce motion” setting where we use them.

What does not work well — and why

The games themselves are largely not accessible to screen readers. Almost every game here draws to a <canvas> element, which produces pixels rather than text: there is no underlying structure for assistive technology to read. Many are also real-time and depend on quick reactions.

We would rather say that plainly than imply otherwise. Specifically:

• Most games cannot be played without sight of the screen.
• Some games require fast or precise input and have no slow or assisted mode.
• Colour is sometimes used to distinguish things (team colours, gem colours) without a second cue.
• Older games in the catalogue have not been reviewed for contrast.

Where we can improve this we do: games are being given on-screen touch controls and a gamepad-style overlay so they do not depend on a physical keyboard, and newer games are built with larger targets and clearer contrast.
