Daily Brains · six words, each living two unrelated lives. Unmask them.
Double Life is the spy-file word puzzle in Daily Brains (/daily). Every day the whole world gets the same six suspects, and every suspect is a word leading a double life: two completely unrelated dictionary meanings. Each case file shows one line about Life A and one about Life B ("hangs upside down in caves" / "swung at a cricket ball"), and you type the word that lives both lives: BAT.
Each suspect gets a manila folder with two dossiers and a split-face silhouette: two half-portraits, each in its own disguise, that sit out of line until the word is named. Name it and the halves snap together under an IDENTITY CONFIRMED stamp; burn all three attempts (or let the suspect go) and the face drifts apart under SUBJECT ESCAPED, to be named at the end-of-day debrief.
The day's difficulty follows the weekday. Monday (Gentle) is common words whose two meanings everyone knows. Through the week the second lives get less familiar, and Sunday (Fiendish) is mostly clearance-5 cases: obscure but genuine dictionary meanings, such as a gun carriage's limber or the stirrup bone of the ear. Each folder tab shows the case's clearance level as dots.
Answers are stored only as a hash plus a scrambled form, so they are not readable in the page, and no dossier line contains the answer. Every second meaning is standard dictionary usage, with no proper nouns. The bank holds 802 cases, dealt by level in seeded cycles: no day's six repeats for well over a year, and a word is never dealt again within about seven weeks.
Type the word into the letter boxes (on-screen keyboard or your own) and press Enter. You get three attempts per suspect. Hop between the six folders with the tabs or the arrow keys and solve them in any order. The day ends when all six cases are closed.
Each life has two more lines hidden under CLASSIFIED bars, running from vague to revealing. Tap a bar to declassify the next line. A case is worth 100 points, minus 15 for each extra line and 10 for each wrong guess, but an unmasked suspect always scores at least 20. Six cases make a maximum of 600 a day.
Unmasking at least three of the six counts as a win and keeps your streak going. Unmasking all six with no extra clues and no wrong guesses is a perfect day. The share card gives the count unmasked, the extra clues used and one square per case (🟩 clean, 🟨 a little help, 🟧 a lot of help, 🟥 escaped), with no spoilers.
