Daily Brains · pack today's breakfast onto the plate, no gaps.

Breakfast Pan is the packing puzzle in Daily Brains (/daily). Each day sets one plate (or skillet) and a tray of breakfast items, each with its own footprint on the grid. Drag them on, turn them, and fill every cell of the plate exactly, like packing an RPG inventory. Every plate is generated by first tiling it with real items, so a perfect fill always exists.

STORY & LORE

Built, not searched for

The generator packs the day's plate with breakfast items first, using a seeded backtracking tiler, and keeps that packing as the stored solution. Rules are then picked from pairs of items that don't touch in that packing, and decoys are added on top. So every day can be solved, and the extras are never needed. The seed is the puzzle number, so the whole world gets the same plate.

The week

Monday is a small side plate with friendly pieces. Each day after that gets a bigger or odder plate (oval platters, skillets with a handle you can fill, a heart plate, a ring platter with a hole in the middle) and favours bigger, awkward pieces. Wednesday adds an extra item that doesn't belong, Thursday adds a can't-touch rule, and Sunday brings the biggest plates with three extras and two rules.

HOW IT PLAYS

Placing

Drag an item from the tray onto the plate; a green outline shows where it will land and a red one shows a clash. Tap an item to turn it a quarter turn (in the tray or in place on the plate). Drag a placed item off the plate to take it back. The granola bowl and the glass of milk stay upright and can't be turned. Keyboard: Tab picks an item, arrow keys move it, R turns it, Enter places it, Backspace takes back the last item, H asks for a hint.

Rules and extras

A can't-touch rule such as Beans ✕ Toast means no item of the first kind may share an edge with one of the second kind. Corners touching is fine. Items that break a rule turn sad and get a red outline. Extras are ordinary items that aren't part of the day's packing. The tray says how many there are but not which ones.

Scoring

A full plate scores 600, plus up to 250 for speed (measured against the day's par, which grows through the week) and up to 150 for using few moves (a move is any drop onto the plate). Each hint places one item in its solution spot for you and costs 150 (three per day). A full plate with no hints is perfect. Serving a plate with gaps scores 4 points per percent filled but ends the streak. Maximum 1000.
